PTDF Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme(Overseas and Local) 2024

PTDF Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme (Overseas and Local) is borne out of the sole mandate of developing, promoting petroleum technology and for creating the human resource needs of the oil and gas industry through research and training of Nigerians.

The aim of the scholarship scheme is anchored on building of capacities and capabilities in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas industry through the development of human capacities, institutional capacity development as well as the promotion of research and acquisition of relevant technologies.

In recognition of the fact that the best education can be found on numerous shores, the Fund has sought out strategic partnerships in Germany, France and China where candidates are offered the opportunity to study in English-taught classes and conduct research in world-class facilities where they will also have the opportunity of experiencing new cultures and work environments.

In line with the above mandates, PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for Overseas and in-country MSc and PhD Scholarships.

Scholarship Awards will be granted for studies in the 2024 academic session in Germany, France and China as well as Federal Universities and Centres of Excellence in Nigeria.

Value/Worth of Scholarship

Full Scholarship which includes the provision of flight tickets, payment of health insurance, payment of tuition and bench fees (where applicable) as well as the provision of allowances to meet the costs of accommodation and living expenses. The programmes will also include language classes to aid scholars settle into their new environments.

Note:Please note that the Fund will be responsible for obtaining admissions for the candidates to their selected programmes.

How To Access PTDF Postgraduate Scholarship Form

  •  Application forms can be accessed online via http://ptdf.flexisaf.com. However, applicants are advised to read through the requirements below before applying.

Eligibility Criteria for PTDF Postgraduate Scholarship Award

PTDF scholarships are highly competitive and only candidates who are outstanding across the board are selected. A selection committee will be constituted to assess applications using the following criteria:

  • »Academic merit as evidenced by quality of degrees, full academic transcripts, other professional qualifications acquired, and relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only)
  • »Membership of professional bodies
  • »The viability of the study/research plan.
  • »Applicants are required to make a case for their scholarship by submitting a statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) they want to undertake the study, the relevance of the proposed study to the industry and its expected impact on national development.

Applicants for the overseas category are advised to poses either one of the following:

  • 1.)International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (UK
  • 2.)GMAT –for Management related courses (USA)
  • 3.)R.E (Graduate Record Examination) (USA)
  • 4.)Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)(USA)

MSc. Applicants

  • Msc. Applicants  for the PDTF scholarship scheme are expected to meet up with the following criteria in order to be considered eligible to apply for the scheme:
  • 1.)A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience;
  • 2.)National Youth Service (NYSC) Discharge Certificate;
  • 3.)Applicants must be computer literate;
  • 4.)Possession of O/level with Credit in English Language; (At least C6 in WAEC/SSCE or C4 and above in NECO); and
  • 5.)Applicants must not be above 30 years of age.

PhD. Applicants

  • PhD. Applicant for the PDTF Scholarship award are expected to meet up with the following criteria in order to be considered eligible to apply for the scheme
  • 1.)A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience;
  • 2.)National Youth Service (NYSC) Discharge Certificate;
  • 3.)Applicants must be computer literate;
  • 4.)Possession of O/level with Credit in English Language; (At least C6 in WAEC/SSCE or C4 and above in NECO); and
  • 5.)Employment in the academics in reputable Nigerian Institution, teaching oil and gas related disciplines;
  • 6.)A minimum of 2.2 in their first degree and a minimum of merit as a second degree certificate in an oil and gas related discipline;
  • 7.)Submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology relevance to the industry and mode of data collection;
  • 8.)Possess a valid admission letter; and
  • 9.)Must not be over 40 years of age.

Note: Only applicants who meet the requirements above shall be shortlisted and invited for a Computer Based Aptitude Test, in the case of MSc applicants, while oral interview will be conducted for PhD applicants (full time and Split-site) on dates to be announced later. Successful candidates will be selected and awarded the PTDF Scholarship following the aptitude tests and interview.

Required Documents for PTDF Postgraduate Scholarship Award

Prospective applicants are advised to scan the following documents and attach to their online application forms:

  • 1.)First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result;
  • 2.)NYSC discharge certificate;
  • 3.)WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO Results;
  • 4.) 2 Recent Passport Photographs;
  • 5.)Local Government Identification Letter;
  • 6.)Masters’ Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only); and
  • 7.)Admission Letter (PhD Applicants).

NOTE: The possession of a valid university admission letter is compulsory for the Local Scholarship category (MSc & PhD) applicants respectively.

  • Note
  • 1.)Recipients Of Other Scholarship Must Not Apply For The PTDF Scholarship.
  • 2.)Please note that the duration Of the PhD Award is limited to a maximum Of Thirty-Six (36) Months Only.
  • 3.)Applicants Who Already Possess a Master’s degree need Not Apply for Msc Programme, But Are qualified to apply For the PhD.
  • 4.)The PTDF Award will take effect from September 2024
  • 5.)PhD Applicants who would have already commenced their Programmes are eligible to apply, However the PTDF     Award will be effective September 2024.
