Scholarship for Asylum Seekers

The Queen’s University Belfast is pleased to offer a full Asylum Seekers Scholarship to a student who is a registered asylum seeker in the United Kingdom and will begin full-time undergraduate studies in the academic year 2024/2025. This gesture is in addition to other scholarships and grants, the institution intend to offer eligible students.

Queen’s University Belfast is a public research university in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. It received its charter in 1845 as Queen’s College, Belfast, and opened four years later. The university offers academic degrees at different levels, with about 300-degree programs available.

Queen’s University Belfast is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, Universities UK, and Universities Ireland.

Worth of Asylum Seekers Scholarship

The Asylum Seekers Scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and provide an £8,000 award to support costs associated with education and attending university for each year of study for the duration of the program.

Eligibility For Scholarship for Asylum Seekers

To be eligible for the scholarship;

  1. You must first apply for, and receive an offer of admission for the academic year to an undergraduate degree program at Queen’s University Belfast.
  2. Each candidate must be a registered asylum seeker in the UK and must be currently resident in Northern Ireland, to be regarded for this scheme.
  3. Applicants must have discretionary or limited leave to remain in the UK, be a dependant of someone with discretionary or limited leave to remain as a result of an application for refugee status, or the candidate or his/her parent/guardian must have submitted an asylum application and not yet received a decision from the Home Office on that application
  4. Scholars must be unable to access mainstream UK student funding due to their immigration status.

Other Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicants must submit an application for a place of study on a full-time undergraduate course starting in the academic year at Queen’s University Belfast.
  2. Students must hold a conditional or unconditional offer or have ‘decision pending’ status from Queen’s University Belfast by 01 April 2024.
  3. You are expected to meet any academic and language conditions attached to your offer as stated in your offer letter to be eligible for the scholarship.

Please note that if you have already been granted Refugee Status or Humanitarian Protection Status as the result of an asylum application, you may be qualified to apply for financial support from Student Finance NI.
