JCSMR PhD Scholarship is open for application. John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) is taking applications from qualified candidates for its JCSMR PhD Scholarship program at ANU in Australia for the 2024 school session.

John Curtin School of Medical Research PhD Scholarship

Every year, the John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) may grant 8-10 JCSMR PhD Scholarship awards. The scholarship award program intends to attract scholars of high quality, with research qualifications and/or proficiency, to seek graduate research comprising a biomedical research project for a PhD degree program at the JCSMR.

Worth of JCSMR PhD Scholarship at ANU

The JCSMR PhD Scholarship covers;

The scholarship award grants an allowance paid fortnightly in arrears.
There are also stipends for thesis refund and paid medical, maternity and paternity leave.
An award beneficiary is qualified to obtain a refund of up to $840 for expenses linked with the production of the thesis. The refund has to be claimed in line with the Australian National University’s Thesis Allowance criteria.

Eligibility for JCSMR PhD Scholarship at ANU

The JCSMR PhD Scholarship will be obtainable to a prospective candidate who:

  1. Is a domestic and/or international student;
  2. has enlisted or is enlisting full-time in a program of study for the PhD degree at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University;
  3. Possesses an Australian Bachelor Honours degree qualification with First Class Honours or equal, and has research publications and/or applicable experience.

Selection will be made based on the candidate’s qualifications and research prospect.

Ongoing Eligibility

The beneficiary is expected to remain enrolled full‐time in a program of study for the PhD degree at the Australian National University in the program for which the Award is offered.

How to Apply for JCSMR PhD Scholarship at ANU

There is no distinct scholarship award application, as candidates are given consideration automatically if they meet the eligibility conditions or conditions prescribed under the Eligibility section.

Candidates looking to be given consideration for the scholarship award in semester 1 should have applied for admission by the 31st August the year before (for foreign students), or 31st October the year before (for domestic students).

Candidates looking to be given consideration for the scholarship award in semester 2 should have applied for admission by the 31st May in the same year (for both foreign and domestic scholars).

Selection

Selection will be carried out based the candidate’s qualifications and research potential.

The Award will be recommended by the JCSMR PhD Scholarship Committee, chaired by the Associate Director HDR for JCSMR, and including four JCSMR academic staff members representing the different departments. Recommendations have to be approved by the JCSMR School Manager and the JCSMR Director.

The Selection Panel and the JCSMR Director retain the right to award no scholarship if they consider there is no candidate of adequate merit. The JCSMR may also alter the number of Awards and/or grant the Award at other times in rare situations (where funds permit), based on the criteria of applications.

A part‐time Award may be offered or approved if the recipient has reasons acceptable to the ANU which preclude full‐time study for part or the entire program of study. In such situations, the ANU has to be satisfied that the explanations relate to caring devotions, a medical illness, a disability, or other situation which restricts the beneficiary’s capacity to undergo full‐time study. A scholarship award cannot be transferred to another school or ANU College.

Application Deadline

Applications end for semester one in August 31st, the year before (for foreign students), or October 31st, the year before (for local students) and semester 2 should have applied for admission by the May 31st, in the same year (for both foreign and local students)
